Patient Services

Eye Associates of Fort Myers provides comprehensive eye care. This includes medical treatment and surgical procedures; we specialize in the latest techniques in laser treatments and cataract microsurgery with lens implants. If you need a change in glasses, you will be given a prescription. For your convenience we have an Optical Boutique to meet all of your eyewear needs. If you desire contact lenses, please request a contact lens fitting evaluation with Dr. Smith.

Our goal is to provide high quality care at a reasonable cost without sacrificing the ideals of practicing good medicine to result in a healthier, satisfied patient. In accomplishing this goal, we will treat each patient as an individual, balancing the patient's diagnosis with affordable treatment.

Appointments and Office Hours

The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 5:00. To make an appointment, call the office number and the operator will transfer your call to the receptionist. Tell her exactly why you wish to see the doctor. It will help her schedule the right amount of time, and the proper nursing or technical care that you may need.

As a courtesy to other patients and staff, please call the office as soon as possible if you are unable to keep your appointment, or are going to be late.

Office Visits

On your first office visit please bring your glasses and a list of the medications you may be taking, including the dosages. You will be asked to complete a medical history and information form. A complete eye exam takes 60 to 90 minutes and includes an examination for glasses, a glaucoma test and drops to dilate the pupils to allow the doctor to see the inside of the eyes. The drops may cause temporary blurry vision (especially for reading) and sensitivity to bright light, which may make it uncomfortable to drive. You may wish to have someone drive you.

How often should I have my eyes checked?

We recommend that that healthy adults over 40 years of age have a check-up every 2 to 3 years. Those over 60 years of age should have a check-up every 1 to 2 years.

What do I do if I have an urgent problem?

If you have an urgent problem, call the listed number at any time. Either recorded instructions will be given or the answering service will contact the doctor. To see the doctor without an appointment, call the office and explain the problem. We will do our best to help you as quickly as possible.

Fees and Insurance

Charges for office visits and surgery are determined by the complexity of the procedure. For those patients who have insurance requiring co-pay, including the Medicare 20% approved amount and deductibles, the co-pay amount is due the day of service. Please have your insurance card with you when you come in for you appointment.

Dr. Smith accepts most insurances and our office will be happy to file for office visits and surgical procedures.
