Medical Laser and Light Based Procedures
The word LASER is actually a acronym for Light
Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Albert Einstein and Max Planck proposed the theory of "stimulated emission" in the early 1920's. The first medical use of a laser was a ruby laser in 1963, used to re-attach detached retinas of diabetic
patient's. Research ensued for over 30 more years before Palomar Medical technologies received an FDA marketing clearance for the unique contact cooling probe that made laser hair removal a safe and effective means of permanent hair reduction.
A slightly less invasive laser type procedure known as
Intense Pulsed light, ILP, was soon developed
making hair removal less painful. Today there are many lasers and IPL systems used to remove
unwanted hair, melanin sun damage, vessels and fine lines. We use
Palomar's newest
system the StarLux 500 Pulsed Light System,
internationally
recognized as one of the safest and most
effective aesthetic IPL Lasers used today.

When considering laser and IPL procedures it is important to understand that a series of treatments are necessary to gain optimum results. To maintain results, touch up treatments may be necessary 1 to 3 years
following treatments.
