ABOUT EYE ASSOCIATES
Dr. Smith is a board certified ophthalmologist and is licensed to practice medicine in Florida, Louisiana, Georgia and Alabama. He brings to the practice the most modern techniques and state-of-the-art technology in cataract and glaucoma surgery. Because your vision is important, Dr. Smith spends time with each patient, personally addressing your questions and concerns. Being a diabetic himself, Dr. Smith specializes in the diagnostic and treatment of diabetic eye diseases. He brings a special aspect to this portion of his practice and is comfortable discussing any aspect of diabetes.
Dr. Angela Kaplan joined Eye Associates of Fort Myers in 2014. She is available for comprehensive eye exams, contact lens fittings, and the treatment and management of ocular disease. She has special interest in helping patients suffering from dry eye disease and manages the Dry Eye Institute program at Eye Associates where the newest technology is available with LipiView and TearLab diagnostics, and LipiFlow and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapies. Dr. Kaplan was born in Michigan and grew up in North Carolina. She completed her undergraduate studies at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry in 1996. She attended optometry school at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, graduating with honors in 2001. During her studies she received the Heine award of excellence in optics, the William Feinbloom Low Vision Award, and was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. Dr. Kaplan further pursued her low vision interest by completing a year residency at the State University of New York College of Optometry and Lighthouse International in New York City, just prior to her return to Florida in 2002.
Dr. Kaplan is an active member of the Southwest Florida Optometric Association , Florida Optometric Association, and American Optometric Association. She served locally as a Board Member of the Lighthouse of Southwest Florida, a non-profit rehabilitation center providing local low vision care. Dr. Kaplan lives in south Fort Myers with her husband and their four children. Her goal is that you understand your eye health options to maximize excellent life long vision and ocular comfort.
