Since his arrival in Southwest Florida in 1998, Dr. Smith has strived to continue
the highest quality eyecare as set forth by his father-in-law, Dr. Cecil C. Beehler,
a leading Ophthalmologist in Fort Myers for over 35 years. Dr. Smith is Certified by
the American Board of Ophthalmology and has been listed as one of the Americas Top
Ophthalmologists in 2007. Specializing in adult and senior eyecare, Dr. Smith has performed
thousands of successful surgeries. As a primary investigator, Dr. Smith has participated in
several research studies in many areas including glaucoma, dry eye, bacterial conjunctivitis/pink
eye, pharmacokinetic and blepharitis to name a few. His training at the Ochsner Medical
Foundation has given him a well-rounded basis in general Ophthalmology and his character and
personality has made him a doctor committed to care the way it should be.
Dr. Smith brings to the practice the most modern techniques in cataract and glaucoma surgery.
Dr. Smith utilizes the advanced IOL Master system to determine the best intra-ocular lens (IOL)
implant for each individual patient, the Stratus OCT to monitor glaucoma and macular degeneration,
and the latest alternative in glaucoma treatment, the
Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)
Therapy, just to name a few. Being one of the first surgeons in SW Florida to be certified to
implant the ReSTOR® multifocus IOL, Dr. Smith has

to his patients. Being a diabetic himself, Dr. Smith also specializes in diagnosis and treatment of
